Good morning and kalimera to everyone out there.

I am glad that you`ve found my blog and I`d like to share a few moments of my holidays.

At this time I will tell you something about a journey to Lefkada, Greece.

Arrival in Lefkada

I felt very happy as I recognized that the clock showed 2:00 am and I felt fresh enough to start the journey. I hurried up and woke up my parents. It took a long time to get them ready but at least we took our non-stop plane to Lefkada and everything was fine.

After a short 2 hours flight from munich we arrived in Preveza (Airport Aktio) in the early Saturday.

During the flight we learned a few new words in Greek language, to push our “ligho” (less) Greek-Speaking.

_______________

Tip: It is a very positive sign to speak a few words in the language of the land you go to. Just a greeting or order in the language will show them that you are an interested friend.

It is also recommendable to know the Greek letters, many signposts are in the Greek language. And it is no witchcraft to know the Greek numbers until 20…

_______________

When we`ve arrived in Preveza we smelt the salted air, felt the power of the Greek sun on our skins and we immediately had a feeling of coming home. Even the other people who landed with us showed automatically there brightest smile, just because of being there.

We rented a car many weeks before and so it was a quick thing (Greek quickness) to get our car and leave the airport. At least my parents took the arrival-Frappé (`Yammas´) and we started our way to the apartment.

Location

The way to our Apartment led us straight through Lefkada City, beautiful yachts and other boats on the right, and in the end, after a short trip along the south coast of the Island, we arrived at our booked Apartments.

It was a small house built in some hills above Agios Nikitas with an unbelievable seaview from both sides of our apartment (Deep Blue, Rosemary).

Deep Blue Appartements

I looked outside a window and – there it was. The pool! Deep enough to dive, long enough to swim, big enough to get every fun you can imagine – simply great!

My parents took me since I was a baby in, on and above the water and so I was able to swim and dive very secure. So it was no problem to jump into the pool seconds after we`d arrived our destination in Lefkada.

Meanwhile my parents had the time to do something more important – for example to search some fine seafood for diner.

Restaurants

In the first evening we tried the “Sapho”-Restaurant in Agios Nikitas.  We found an excellent Restaurant in the first row with a prime-look to some fishing boats and to the romantic coast.

The dinner was as good as the view, the mussels were wonderful and I was glad to stay in Greece again.

Everywhere we had some meal – it was very good, fresh and tasty. We got fantastic  Zucchini-Balls and spicy wings in the “Asperous”-Restaurant.

We found only best food in “Marathes Taverna” and if you like good food too you have to visit the “LightHouse” in Lefkada City. You will get some Lefkada historic stories and the lady of the house is cooking by herself – since more than 35 years!                                                                                                                    But the only important thing for me, you know, is having seafood in my holidays ….

Beaches

In the early morning of the first day my father went to a store in Agios Nikitas and he bought some breakfast and drinks. He was very lucky to get some “Nutella”, tasting like he remembered as a child..

He also brought some eggs, honey from Lefkada, some bread, apples and a melon and a few things more to have a good start into the day.

We took some of our meal in our bags and started up to discover the beaches of Lefkada.

The first beach we arrived was a sandy beach called Kalamitsi-Beach.

We swam and snorkeled through the turquoise water but there unfortunately were less fishes to discover. And it was the same at the other beaches of Lefkada Island.

But swimming and snorkeling through the wonderful water is enough fun for me!

It did not matter so much but it was luxury to have on every beach some sun loungers and parasols (8-10€ a day) and also some ice, drinks, fruits (you get them everywhere… yummy…), small things to eat and of course Frappé for my parents.

Undertakings

If you don’t want to stay on your pool the whole day, and if you interested in some adventures, you will enjoy Lefkada Island too.

Wandering, ride a Mountain bike, beach surfing and surely everything you can do in and upon the water is possible in Lefkada.

Especially in the east of the Island you have many opportunities to rent some boats.

If you don’t have a license you can rent motor-boats up to 30 PS.

If you have one, as my parents do, you can rent motor-boats up to what you want. For example we had a boat with 100 PS and discovered the coasts.

A very interesting place to discover in the Greek sea is “Scorpio”. The first owner of this Island, Aristoteles Onassis, made it a high secure area and it is not possible to go on it or to anchor. In newer times, they told us, a Russian Oligarch bought it as a present for his daughter and, sometimes, you see some helicopters landing and starting from Scorpio.

Back in Lefkada City you can do some shopping, rent boat tours, taste the best ice you can imagine and there is a very cool fish-spa my ma and I tried out.

At least you can visit an old castle in Lefkada and on your ways you will see some canyons and walls from past wars – we will discover them on our next journey to Lefkada Island.

I hope my story was interesting for you and that you`ll have fun to visit Lefkada once by your own.

Greetings and Hugs
